What is the purpose of a portfolio A portfolio is a document to shows the creative process of a person as they build projects. It should show who you are, through the condensed representations of your best work, with as little repetition as possible.

What skills are required to build a portfolio? Patience, creativity, motivation, willing to take time, balance, good layout skills, trust, consideration of colour, passion and belief in yourself. You should look over it everyday, and be looked at by as many eyes as possible to make sure it reads well, and be brutal with it.

What equals a successful portfolio? A successful portfolio shows a creative’s process and is a cut down and edited version of everything they went through, or have gone through so far on their projects over a certain period of time. Every page should be insular, and stand on its own. It should push ideas far, and into variation possible, it needn't show that, but might be the highlights of that process. It should show journey and story of work with no words, showing your ideas visually. It should show your interpretations and progression, with textures, colour, applications to page, with a multi media and multi technique approach, with a similar vibe throughout. It should be a communication of ideas, in your aesthetic.

What should a portfolio contain? It depends on the person, but their creative process, usually following research, experimentation, design development and final outcome. It doesn't have to be perfect, and should be personal to them, and can be a bit of a show too "fashion is a facade". It should mail prioritise ideas, and how they are developed. It should show you harnessed the best of each piece and developed, embraced and translated it, while playing and experimenting with it, while showing you did it with passion, and would do it for yourself.

What format should a portfolio take? It can depend on the brief of the school or job application etc, but usually throughout 20 ish pages shows the highlights of their processes. It can be formatted to the persons desires, but should be as easy as possible for the viewer to view, though this can depend on function and environment.
